Positions Available at the Catskill Symphony Orchestra

  • Overview

    We are seeking a dedicated and organized Stage Manager to join our small but passionate orchestra team. With a season comprising 4 to 8 events, not including rehearsals, the ideal candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of all performances. This role is pivotal in coordinating between musicians, technical staff, and venue personnel, ensuring that every aspect of the production is harmonious and meets our high standards of excellence.

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director and Artistic Director

    MAX WORK TIME: 160 hrs / year

    Key Responsibilities:

    Coordinate and manage all on-stage activities during concerts, rehearsals, and special events.

    Liaise with the executive director, artistic director, musicians, and technical teams to ensure clear communication and effective execution of each performance.

    Oversee the setup and breakdown of the stage, including safe transport, delivery and placement of instruments, chairs, stands, and any other equipment.

    Manage backstage areas, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for all personnel.

    Maintain and update stage plots and cue sheets for each performance, ensuring all changes are communicated effectively to the relevant parties.

    Troubleshoot any on-the-spot issues that may arise during rehearsals or performances, ensuring minimal disruption to the event.

    Coordinate with venue staff to ensure compliance with all venue requirements and regulations.

    Assist in the scheduling of rehearsals, sound checks, and performances, ensuring optimal use of time and resources.

    Ensure the care and proper handling of all musical instruments and equipment.

    Qualifications:

    Proven experience as a Stage Manager or in a similar role within a live performance environment; experience with orchestral or classical music settings is highly desirable.

    Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines.

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

    A keen eye for detail and a problem-solving mindset, capable of anticipating and resolving issues before they impact the performance.

    Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, in line with rehearsal and performance schedules.

    A passion for music and the arts, with a commitment to maintaining the high artistic standards of the orchestra.

    Compensation:

    $20 per hour, commensurate with experience.
